Melissa has worked in numerous areas of the medical field for the past 23 years. She was born and raised in Big Spring, TX where she graduated from Big Spring High School with Honors in 1993. She began working as an outpatient psychiatric tech at the Big Spring State Hospital at the age of 18 while pursuing her ADN degree and becoming a registered nurse through Howard College in 1997. She worked for several years in critical care and emergency medicine before returning to school at Texas Tech University in 2001 to finish her BSN degree. She graduated from this program with a 4.0 GPA and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honors society. She then went on to pursue a career as an RN home health case manager and later became the director of a home health agency in Cleburne, TX. In 2011 she decided to return to school to obtain her master’s degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and she became nationally certified as an FNP in 2012.
Since becoming a Nurse Practitioner, Melissa has worked in several family practice clinics in both Granbury, TX and Breckenridge, TX. She has been recognized as Who’s Who among Medical Professionals, has been recognized as an outstanding FNP preceptor by several national universities, and has been invited to speak as a student ambassador for Georgetown University. Her medical interests include wellness/preventative medicine, hormone replacement therapy, holistic care and non-pharmacologic pain relief therapies, weight loss management, and natural supplemental therapies; all of which led her to join Southwest Physical Medicine’s integrative health practice in the spring of 2016.
Her philosophy is that true health and wellness come from treating the whole person and treating the underlying cause of all medical conditions rather than just managing the condition. Outside of work, Melissa enjoys spending as much time as possible with her large family. She and her husband have a blended family with 5 children altogether (3 girls and 2 boys). They also have a 4 year old granddaughter and another granddaughter on the way later this year. Their oldest son is currently serving in the United States Air Force, so Melissa is very proud to be an Air Force Wing Mom and USO supporter. Her family loves to spend time travelling, enjoying the outdoors, playing family games and sports, watching movies, actively participating in their community church, and caring for their two pets… a German Shephard and a miniature pot belly pig!
My testimony to chiropractic:
Being a four sport athlete, injuries were always part of the development. In junior high, I was diagnosed by a chiropractor to have spondylolisthesis in my low back. With his care and others like him, I was able to continue with collegiate football. It is safe to say that without Chiropractic care none of my dreams could have come true.
Being such an intense athlete I initially wanted to be an Orthopedic Surgeon, but with some divine intervention, I am here now finding and treating the causes of people's problems not their "symptoms".
In 1991 I was told that surgery was needed to correct my life-long back problem. I was uneducated about the procedures and simply trusted the Doctor had my best interest at heart with my history. That day ended up being the worst, but best day in my life. For it was that failed surgery, which was my divine intervention, that pushed me to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.
Helping adults and children achieve the healthiest outcome in whatever they choose requires discipline and a multi-disciplinary approach to health care. I work with MD's, D.O.'s, and surgeons all over Ft. Worth to make sure your health needs are met.
